Mаршрут был oткрыт 20 февраля 1948 года, соединив города Сальта и Сан-Антонио-де-лос-Кобрес.
"Поез д в облака" ежегодно посещает около 30 тысяч туристов.
В целом продолжительность маршрута - 434 километра, что занимает 16 часов в оба конца;
на пути путешественникам предстоит проехать по 29 мостам, 21 тоннелю, 13 виадукам.
На всем пути следования делаются многочисленные остановки, во время которых туристы могут выйти и сделать снимки.

Train to the Clouds – An Adventure in Salta, Argentina

The most amazing train in the world, the one that takes you to the clouds.
The train's capacity is of about 510 passengers.
The train runs 217 km. and passes through 29 bridges, 21 tunnels, 13 viaducts, 2 spirals, and 2 zigzags.

The train services include:
1.Tourist information guide.
2.An aide per car.
3.Security personnel.
4.Doctor.
5.Nurses.

Throughout the tour there are two stops: one in San Antonio station of the Coppers, and the other, on the viaduct The Polvorilla.
The train covers a distance of 128 miles, at 21 miles per hour.
The Tren a las Nubes is one of the three highest railways in the world.
Besides its dining car, it offers physician services, audio, video and bilingual guide services.
The departure is very early in the morning and the bus gets back to the city at 9 pm; crossing Quebrada del Toro,
with a stop at the beautiful village of Santa Rosa de Tastil, where travelers may visit the local museum: Museo de Sitio.

El tren asciende hasta los 4.200 metros de altura, siendo de los tres ferrocarriles más altos del mundo.
Cuenta con servicio de comedor a bordo, un ayudante por vagón, personal de seguridad y asistencia médica por los problemas que pudiera ocasionar en algunos pasajeros la falta de oxígeno que provoca la altura.
Recorre 434 km en casi quince horas. Atraviesa 29 puentes, 21 túneles, 13 viaductos, 2 rulos y 2 zigzags.
El tren cuenta con servicios tales como coche comedor, consultorio médico, audio, video y guías bilingües.
Durante todo el recorrido se realizan dos paradas: una, en la estación de San Antonio de los Cobres, y la otra, en el viaducto La Polvorilla, donde finaliza.
El tren parte de la estación General Belgrano, en la ciudad de Salta, a 1.187 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
